Just last week... me and my bf went to Vietnam. Nah... I'm just joking... ^^ but this post is really about Vietnam... just that we found this particular food item in Penang... to be exact... in a pasar malam at Sungai Dua. It caught our attention as the cart was right in the middle of the road... and it's attached to a bicycle... ^^

It says Vietnamese Popiah... ingredients... coconut shreds + taugeh + sesame (I think)... the 'Ho Chiak' logo is at the end of signage... too dark... unfortunately in this picture...

While the lady was doing the popiah... we manage to snap some pictures of the bicycle and notice that it was recommended by 'Ho Chiak'... well... so far... their taste bud is OK. Observing the way they prepare the popiah, it is actually quite straight forward and clean... and both the ladies are very helpful and polite (albeit a bit shy at first)... they let us take some pictures of the process.

Firstly she took out the popiah skin... and then arrange the coconut shreds in the center of the popiah skin. After that... she reach for the taugeh... and then put it on top of the coconut shreds... right before she wraps it up... she sprinkles some sesame seeds on it... (black and white sesame seeds to be exact).

This is how the popiah looks like before it ends up in your tummy...YUMMY!

As the final touch... she wraps it at the top part and VOILA... there you have it... Vietnamese popiah... ^^ So how does it taste? Our taste buds tells us... ting ting ting! It was a direct hit. The coconut shreds makes the popiah taste refreshing while the taugeh makes it crunchy. On top of all this... it is not oily! Can be a rather healthy light snack. Serving size? Enough for those ladies that are on a diet... since it is not too big and not too oily... ^^ can say finger size... hahahaha... not exactly like the size of your finger... but snack size la...

The final stage of the popiah... rolled it up and...

VOILA... the Vietnamese popiah is done... ready to makan!!! The popiah only la... ><"

Well... I cannot say exactly where you can find them if you want to try it. But you can always give the nice lady a call and ask where is their current location. Anyhow, if you're in a pasar malam in Penang... be sure to look out for them... ^^

Peace Out ~~
